M.M.R.D. M.M.R.D. manufacture the UK No:1 radio controlled 1/8th Hot Rod, we have been building and supplying cars for 11 years, and our cars have won several major events in the sport, including British and European titles, the current British champion won the title driving a M.M.R.D. car. The Cars Radio Controlled Model Hot Rods are based on the full sized Hot Rods and are powered by a 3.5cc glow plug engine. Due to there light yet strong design (less than 3.5Kg), they have a great power to weight ratio and are capable of speeds of 40mph, with rapid acceleration and very effective brakes. The cars are rear wheel drive, the chassis is made of a light but strong type of aluminium, and along with the suspension, gearing and the rest of the car have been designed using our design teams 28 years experience in various formulas. Several engines can be used, as long as it is no more than 3.5cc. Any two channel radio gear may be used on 27 or 40Mhz.There are several body shells available both classic and modern. We can supply cars in various states from a kit you build yourself, to an assembled car ready to race (see kits for more details). We also Stock body shells, engines, radio gear, fuel and all the spares you need. The Racing Drivers are graded according to their driving ability and a handicap system is used, just as in the full sized sport. Unlike most racing where drivers compete for the most forward positions, the highest graded, more experienced, drivers start furthest back; this makes for closer and more entertaining racing. This is a non-contact form of racing. Race meetings are run on a basis of heats to qualify for places in the semi-finals and finals, each driver has 4 rounds, with the best 3 counting. Drivers are regraded periodically through the season on the basis of their race results. There are club and regional championships run at different clubs throughout the country each year. There are also Major Championship meeting which are competed for on the day (European championship and British championship, etc), and not forgetting the M.M.R.D. championship.
